Legal Question in Family Law in California

In order to serve a NOTICE IN LIEU OF SUBPOENA TO COMPEL ATTENDANCE BEFORE THE COURT AND PRODUCE DOCUMENTS AT HEARING, do I need to have a court clerk sign something before the document is served? I am looking to subpoena paystubs of the ex's employment and any and and all documents regarding her retirement accounts from last year as she claims she has no vested stocks yet she sold her stocks in order to pay for her attorney and made no effort to inform me of the change in community property (this along with most of my furniture and gifts, which no written records are likely and able to prove my case).
