I received a threatening letter from my ex. I believe he falsified it to look like it came from his former attorney I'm order to intimidate me. What is my recourse?

I would have to see the letter. If it came from his former lawyer, it would be on their letterhead. You can certainly contact that former lawyer to inquire as to whether he/she sent it.

If the letter threatens you with death of great bodily injury you can take it to a police officer. But before the DA charges a criminal offense the DA is going to want to be able to prove by a beyond a reasonable doubt standard that the letter came from your ex husband.
