Sevrence pay

My boyfriend is still going through his divorce its been since Dec.2000. His ex's attorney wants to settle, my boyfriend has no attorney. My boyfiend just got laid off his job. He is going to get a sevrence check. Does he have to give her half? Some how she found out about it and told her lawyer. Please help!!

No, she is not entitled to half. Earnings after the date of separation are his separate property. Your boyfriend needs an attorney and should talk to one soon about his rights and obligations, it will probably cost him less than his ex-wife will demand. Good Luck, Pat McCrary
