Legal Question in Family Law in California

My son is 16. I have joint custody with his father. He has gone back and forth between two houses for 15 years. Currently we live in the same city. His father is going to move 20 minutes away .. unfortunately this will be difficult to get my son back and forth to school as traffic is heavy and our work hours are different. Will I be able to have my son live with me during the week so he can attend the same high school?

If the only option for your son navigate to and from school is by being in your custodial care, the court would support that change in the parenting plan. However, you should carefully look at whether or not there are other options available to you.

It It would be best to meet and confer with the other parent to see if you can both come up with some sensible solutions to avoid the necessity of a court battle over this commuting problem.

Now that you son is 15 and close to the age he will no longer be under the court's jurisdiction, he may have some insights on how he would like to spend his time between the two households.
