Legal Question in Family Law in California

Is a temporary power of attorney regarding the care of my minor children , that has not been notorized a legal document? I reside in california , my mother and two children in Oregon I sent her a hand written power of attorney , giving my mother permission to handle any and all matters regarding the well-being of my children (schooling, medical, pshycological matters) I dated it October 2009 but did not state a specific time period for the care in her custody , can she use that and try and take custody of my children?

Is it a "legal" document? Hmm, I suppose it would be as "legal" as any other document, meaning you have not broken any laws I am aware of by creating the document. Can she use it? It depends on what she wants to use it for. If she wants to use it to enroll the kids in school or obtain medical care, it probably will not be sufficient. It will not be sufficient for her to obtain support benefits from the government. If she wants to use it to obtain a court order giving her guardianship, it probably will be admissible in evidence.
