Legal Question in Family Law in California

Since I will be representing myself during my hearing in January. May I ask the judge for the Non Custodial to pay for some of the cost I paid for lawyer fee during my first hearing which is $1600. When I mentioned to my lawyer at that time prior to the case if that was possible she said yes with no problem and now I was told I have to file a separate motion for the lawyer fee and that it will be extremely hard to for that to happen. My request was not mentioned during the first hearing to the judge.

It should have been requested at the first hearing. You were told correctly that you need a separate motion and a good case for why you didn't ask for it at the time the fees were incurred on the first hearing.
