Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

What are the California laws on gifts? Someone bought me some expensive gifts and is now asking for them back and threatening to take me to court over them.

Ordinarily, a gift immediately becomes the recipient's property. The donor has no right to take it back.

But some gifts are conditional. If the recipient accepts a gift subject to conditions and then the conditions are not met, the donor has the right to reclaim it.

Bear in mind that the donor's story about what happened may be very different from yours. He might say these transfers weren't gifts at all.

Good luck.
