Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

lien sale of vehicle

I have a vehicle registered to me that was stored at a friends house with their permission. He put a lien on my vehicle and notices were sent out to the reg owner, myself. I never heard anything about this, and when thirty days passed, I guess it legally became his to sell.I went to dmv to inquire, and for some reason they have an address for me in idaho.

I've lived in california my whole life so I have no clue where that mistake came from,

But that's probably why I never received notification of the pending lien sale.

Nonetheless this was all done without my notice or consent, and I want to track down and reclaim my car.

Where do I go from here?
