Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

My Mom received some money from a class action settlement. The check has my deceased father's name on it as well. It was from the phone company for some fee they were charging customers for years. The amount is for $1000.00. My Dad was never taken off the phone bill because my Mom didn't want her name to appear by itself in the phone book, the usual reason.

Can my Mom just provide his death certificate to cash it?

Your mother should probably endorse the check and see if the bank will allow her to deposit it in her account (bringing a certified copy of you father's death certificate may be a good idea). The bank has policies and procedures that it must follow, so it is hard to tell what will happen. I am sure it will give her the proper requirements that need to be met for her to deposit the check.
