Unlawful detainer

Can the owner of property designate a represenative if he lives out of state for an unlawful detainer?

Yes you can designate an agent for the porperty. That agent can then serve any required notices, file and serve the unlawfull detainer complaint. This authorization should be in writing. To err on the side of caution have the document notarized.

Any attonrey or rental agency can prepare the agency agreement.
