Legal Question in Immigration Law in California

earning royalty on H4 visa

Is it legal to earn royalty as a song writer on H4 visa? One of my songs is going to be published and I need to register it for royalty.

I am on H4 and have been in US for 3 years, if that matters.

Thanks

Kamini

Re: earning royalty on H4 visa

Hi kamini,

Congrats on the success of your song. This is a borderline area of immigration law. Normally, H4 are not allowed to derive income in the US. If royalties will start to come in on a regular basis you might be crossing the line, if it is a one time deal you might be able to get away with this.

We represent numerous artists in So California and there are several visas available for those that are planning to derive income in such fields. Feel free to email me at [email protected] or call me at 619 819 92 04 if you need to discuss this furhter.
