Legal Question in Immigration Law in California

Questions about sponsorship/related items

Hello, I am analyzing the possibility of becoming a sponsor for a woman who may become my wife. I have read the affidavit of support thoroughly, but I have some questions for which I have been unable to find answers.

1. The affidavit of support does not state what exactly is included for support requirements. Some are obvious to me, such as food, housing, etc. Are items such as beauty products, medical coverage expected to be part of support? Is there a list somewhere that indicates what is considered support?

2. How much am I expected or required to allocate for support (either in dollar amounts or percentage of income)?

3. If she feels I am not meeting the conditions in the affidavit of support while she is living with me (presuming I am providing housing, food and medical coverage), is there a legal channel open to her to force me to provide more?

4. If we divorce what happens to her conditional residency status? Is she deported?

5. What happens if I refuse to sponsor her permanent residency - Does my sponsorship end at that point or is she deported?

thanks

Re: Questions about sponsorship/related items

Your income must meet or exceed the poverty guidelines, based on the number of persons in your household. She can't demand more, it is more of an assurance for the government that she will not end up on welfare. If she does, then you may have to pay the government.
