Legal Question in Juvenile Dependency in California

Whenever I want my dad to buy multiple concert tickets online using his credit card, he insists that my friends' parents call him before he buys anything. I know he's just making sure he's not wasting money, but then he adds that if he buys the concert tickets (music concert, dance show, amusement park ticket) he NEEDS parental consent because otherwise it'd be illegal and my friends' parents can sue him. I'm very skeptical about this. Is there such a law that prohibits adults buying things online for minors without parent consent? I think not, right? Otherwise asking my dad to buy a gift online for my friend's birthday would be illegal as well...

I think your dad is being cautious, to make sure that your friends' parents also permit your friends to go to the concerts and other venues. Conceivably, if one of them gets hurt at the concert, by an elephant at the zoo, etc., the parents might look to him to cover medical expenses and other costs, since he's the one who would have purchased the tickets without their consent and your friends are, in essence, his guests without his supervision. Be thankful that he's willing to help you get tickets for your friends, and don't hassle it.
