Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Discharged -reason-looking for another job

Recently I was terminated by the company I worked for when they were contacted by a agency doing a background investigation on me for a government position that I was being considered for. They said they fired me because I was looking for another job. The day they were contacted is the day they fired me. No notice and no extra pay. Do I have any recourse? Especially if I don't get this other position?

Nope. But if you checked a box on the job application that said "Do not contact present employee," you might have a privacy or interference with contract claim against the prospective employer.

Sorry, but looking for another job is proof you are not interested in staying at the company. Any legal action you might take would fail for that reason.
