Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Is it legal for the owner of a company that you were terminated from, make negative comments about you to customers. I work for a franchise owned business, when I was terminated I went to the same company but different owners. A customer who is now using our business informed me that the owner is making negative comments about me and how I work.
