Legal Question in Employment Law in California

I signed a contract as a dancer in a ballet company in California that says they can unilaterally terminate it, but if I want to quit, they must also agree to release me. The agreement is for one year. Can I be forced to sty with that company where my voluntary resignation would not be accepted. I've been invited to dance with another ballet company in another distant city.

You will have to take the agreement to a local employment attorney. You can probably leave - even contracted employees can't be forced to stay at a job. But there could be some liability. Go see an attorney.
