We work for a company that recently took away our sick time in favor of PTO. Can an employer take away your earned, banked sick time? They gave us a reward of $12 per day of earned and banked time as a reward.

You have no right to accrued sick time in CA. Only vacation time is vested. So it is a pure gift that they are giving you anything for it.
