Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

3 years ago my mother passed away leaving her home to myself and 2 other siblings. Orally we all agreed that our aunt should stay here (getting foreclosed upon) for free, as our guest. Is there such thing as "squatters rights", where at some time our aunt becomes the "ruler" of the home? Thanks.

No, permissive users or occupants of property do not acquire rights to it unless they are tenants and have tenants rights by paying rent, or unless there is some other agreement granting them rights. But it would be a good idea to put your arrangement in writing in case there is any dispute in the future about whether you made any promises or agreements with your aunt verbally that she may lay some claim under.
