can an apartment charge for a pet they forgot to add in to rent after our lease has expired?

After a lease expires and you become a month to month tenant, a landlord can increase the rent as long as they give you a 30 day notice. You can choose to pay the extra rent, or give notice that you are leaving. There may be some exception that applies in your situation.
