Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

I'm in California. I'm a tenant who is suing my landlord. We agreed on Mediation to settle. DO ALL PARTIES NAMED IN THE CASE HAVE TO SHOW UP???

For purposes of mediation, only the parties necessary to work out a settlement need to attend. So if multiple tenants are involved, as long as one tenant has authority to settle the case for all the tenants, that should be sufficient. The same goes for multiple defendants. As long as the one paying the settlement has the authority, that is all that is necessary. It would be a good idea to work this out with all the parties before the mediation.

If this is a court hearing, however, then all parties should appear.
