Robert F. Cohen Law Office of Robert F. Cohen

State law permits tenants to stay (stop) an eviction for several weeks by filing an application with the court that entered the judgment for eviction. You might have to deposit with the court the rental value for that period. Many counties have self-help clinics for tenants. You might find their information at the courthouse or by searching on the Internet.
