Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

Hello,

I have tenants in an older house where they're tripping the circuit breaker every time they run their portable a/c unit and a microwave at the same time. Would it be the landlord's responsibility to upgrade the circuit? The landlord did not provide neither the portable a/c unit nor the microwave oven.

Thank you!

Unless it is below code AND a health or safety hazard, landlords are not required to upgrade functioning electrical systems. Any circuit can be overloaded if you plug enough into it. The tenants need to run the two appliances on different circuits as long as the circuits themselves are not faulty.
