Can my landlord request for me to pay 3 months rent ahead to hold in case if don't pay on on time?

When moving in, they can ask a max of first month's rent plus two month's deposit. If you are already a tenant, the most they can hold for deposit is two months' rent. If they already have a deposit, the most they can ask is whatever would make it total two months' rent, and only if you are a month to month tenant. They can't change it in the middle of a lease for a specified term.
