Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

roommate

i want to ask what my legal rights are about having a roommate. more than 2 years ago, i sought this 2br-2bath apartment. My husband, 2 kids and I were listed in the contract. in september 2007, my cousin asked me if she can move in with us as our roommate. i told the apartment manager about this and gave her a letter. my cousin didn't move yet until february 2008. there were so many turnovers in the management of the aparment complex and the new manager is telling me that she needs to ran my cousin's credit history. I wonder if this is legal since they already ran my credit when i sought for this apartment unit and besides i am the one responsible for paying the entire rent. I also want to ask, if 5 people ( 3 adults and 2 kids) can legally stay in a 2br/2bath apartment? thank you
