Accident with no insurance
My friend recently got into an accident. She was changing lines and did not see the car in the other lane. She hit the car and deployed the cars airbag and the car was badly damaged. Her car was not as badly damaged. The car is under her dad's name and she depened on her dad for car insurance. She found out that it expired 1 week ago. Police showed up and said its her fault and gave her a ticket for no insurance. She has no money to pay for the other cars damages and personal injury. She is afraid to get sued and is wondering how can she pay minimum and not cause lots of problems with her record. she is only 18 years old. Please let me know what lawyer is best if any lawyer can help, or what can she do.. Thank you. She also says that the other car wes going well above speed limit and he could have slowed down. The accident proves that he was driving at very high speeds and she was not.. It could be that he is to blame for the accident too. Both cars ended up at the other side of the street after the accident.

A good civil litigation attorney can help defend her against a large judgment, BUT she is going to pay attorney fees regardless of outcome. Without insurance, she will pay out of pocket whatever settlement is required. Without the money to even pay damages, how is she going to pay an attorney? She should find an attorney that will try to get the case settled quickly and cheaply. The attorney should be able to keep the price down by reminding the other side of the lack of insurance and the risk she would be forced to file bankruptcy. If car under her dad's name, he will be named in any suit to be filed. His insurance may still defend him but possibly not pay for any damages. Need to set appt with attorney to discuss all, bring your dad. Most attorneys will set initial visit with no charge.
