Legal Question in Personal Injury in California

My daughter was injured in an auto accident December 2011. She is not at fault. Her case is finally settling and she will be receiving a significant compensation from two Insurance Co's. She was a minor at the time of the incident, a legal adult now. What is the appropriate compensation for her atty? Is there a statute that defines this? Or is it negotiated at settlement? Please and thanks, Dad
