Legal Question in Personal Injury in California

I received a settlement for an injury I sustained while incarcerated. My lawyer sent my check to the jail in which they put it in a safe deposit box until I complete my program. My question is, are the lawyer fees previously deductedd before payment was issued to me?

Most probably yes. You should have also received a disbursement sheet showing the breakdown of the settlement.
