Legal Question in Personal Injury in California

My wife I were bumped/hit by a moving car in July. The driver didn't stop but we got his license number and his insurance company covered the (minor) damage to my car. I was uninjured and told the insurance company this. A day or so after the injury my wife began complaining of various symptoms (none incapacitating) that her doctors have suggested may have been results of the accident. She submitted a medical injury claim to the insurance company. They hired insurance fraud investigators who called today to schedule an 'interview' with us. I feel we have nothing to hide, but their questions to me (Do you have a lawyer, and a remark about contradicting what we originally told the insurance company) have me suspicious of some kind of ambush. Is there any danger of being prosecuted by the insurance company for fraud or is the worst case simply that the insurance company would just reject my wife's medical injury claim? Do I have the right to ask the investigator company to send me in advance any documents they will ask me to sign before I agree to the in-home 'interview'? Thank you.

The main reason they are doing the interview is to find information to deny the claim. Most personal injury attorneys would prefer to be be present for an insurance interview, even if the interview is conducted by phone. The insurance company is not going to provide you with many documents, especially if they are denying the claim.
