How much is a homestead in California for a single person?

See Code of Civil Procedure section 704.730. The exempt amount for a single person is $50,000.

$50,000 is the basic amount, but several classes of single persons get higher declared homestead exemptions ($75,000 or $150,000) based on age, income, dependent family members living with the single person, etc. It's all in CCP 704.730, but you have to read the whole section to get it all.
