Yes, it's theoretically possible, either because you gave the medical creditors a security interest in your home, or because the creditors sued, won, and got a judgment against you. However, California has a couple of provisions in its laws -- called the "declared homestead" and the "automatic homestead" -- that protect some of a homeowner's equity from seizure by creditors. See California Code of Civil Procedure sections 704.710 to 704.995.
