Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

''Rent Control''

My new landlord says I'm not on rent control but I have a certificate from 1998 that says I am...How do I find out who is trying to pull a fast one. They said major improvements were made on the Bldg. in 1990. Prior manager of that time says no. Help!

Re: ''Rent Control''

You should call rent conrol to see if your address is in the City. If so, you are under rent control. Please contact me if you have any questions.

The ZIP code you gave, 91606, seems to suggest you live in North Hollywood. As a Northern California lawyer I'm not sure, but I think that is part of the City of Los Angeles, which has rent control.
