Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

Transfering a Timeshare

I want to give a timeshare located in the French Quarter of New Orleans to my adult step daughter. It is paid for. How do I transfer the deed. Their laws are complex according to my Living Trust attorney here in California.

Re: Transfering a Timeshare

Rather than reject your question on the basis of "wrong state," I thought I'd answer it by saying that the transfer would probably be governed by the laws of Louisiana, so you'll need to re-ask your question specifying CA as your residence but LA as the state whose laws govern. Louisiana has the most different and unusual laws of any of the U.S. states, since it is the only one to have adopted and retained the Continental (French/Napoleonic) heritage called the "civil law" rather than the English-origin "common law." I would add that the timeshare promoters or current management MIGHT be willing and able to assist, but they often lose interest after the initial sale is made and paid.
