auto accident no insurance

I sold a car. Driver was involved in accident, car still registered in my name. Officer couldnt tell who was at fault. Insurance company trying to sue me for damages 2 their clients car b/c I was registered owner. Do they have a case, what rights do I have?

The registered owner of a vehicle is responsible for damages caused by a driver. Vehicle Code 17150. If you sold the car, did you send DMV a release of liability? If you did so, show that to the insurance company. If you did not, you are going to be on the hook.

As the title holder of record, you would have to successfully rebut the presumption that you were not the owner of the vehicle at the time of the accident.
