Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California

Hello, I am 62 and collecting ssi because I cannot work due to rare disease. I recently found out my grandmother left a portion of a pretaxed ira to me. ROTH? Can I accept this money without it hurting my monthly measely SSI check? Thank you for your time. It is not earned income, so what will happen?

Without knowing more about the amount of the IRA and the RMD for the IRA, it is hard to say. Also, there may be language in your grandmother's trust (if she had one) that could affect the situation. I suggest you meet with an attorney who specializes in this area and have the attorney go over the specifics. The Academy of Special Needs Planners (of shich I am a member) could be able to help you find a suitable attorney in your area.
