Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California

I am the executor & beneficiary of my parents' trust. The last one died in 1996. My sister and her children were also beneficiaries. They received personal items and cash from the trust as they were supposed to about 15 yrs ago. Many things have been in storage and they have all ignored my requests to take what is theirs of the personal property. There has no money in the trust for some time, just personal property. I just received a demand for a copy of the trust and an accounting. I can send a copy, but do I really have to do an accounting after 20yrs?

Depends on what there is to account and whether there were any previous accountings. I suggest you take the Trust and all pertinent documents to an attorney to review the facts more specifically. Perhaps certain formalities were not followed when the distributions were made, leaving beneficiaries with questions these many years later that could have been avoided by following better procedures. For example, did beneficiaries sign receipts for their distributions?
