Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California

The executor of our mother's estate is now coming back saying that we owe $3K in additional taxes, because they were filed incorrectly. Are we bound to have to pay for that?

It depends on what the additional costs are for. If they are, in fact, obligations of the estate which should have been paid by the estate, and are payable from estate assets which have been distributed to you, you likely have responsibility. If they are penalties for late filing or similar matters caused by error of the executor, they may be the responsibility of the executor or the executors accountant.
