Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California

The father died without a will but has assets to be divided between two children;<$150,00.00. The exact amounts have yet to be determined due to the closed safe deposit box(es) and insurance policies ; may be >$150,000.00 The younger sibling does not want to disclose the bank transactions to the older sibling. Is the younger sibling obligated to disclose the existence of having a sibling to the bank and to disclose the existence of bank transactions to the other sibling? Can more than one probate case be filed?; each sibling filing separate petitions? All matters, death of father and assets in the County of Alameda CA.

At this point, it sounds as if you need someone to take control of your father's estate. Only a Judge can appoint someone. If there are competing petitions, the Alameda probate judge will probably appoint a private fiduciary to take over and administer the estate. Unless the siblings can come together and nominate one person, the estate will be paying out to non-family members.
