Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California
My husband is trustee of his father's trust. His father has passed away and the trust indicates my husband's step mother can remain in the home until her passing. At that time, the home reverts to my husband. Because my husband has no communication with his step mother, and we live in separate states, I'm curious to know if there is any requirement that we be notified of her death. I occasionally check the obits but am not confident that's the best approach. Any advice?

There are two options: one is to try to develop some regular communication with his step mother. She has responsibilities to maintain the home under typical life estate tenancies and he needs to make sure she is doing her part. Secondly, he can pay someone to check up on her every month or so.
