Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California

Does Life Insurance Exist?

My mother in law died over a year ago. Six months prior to her death, her house burned to the ground, destroying all paperwork. She had cancer when this happened and when asked if she had life insurance, she said ''Oh Yeah'', so we are wondering if there is any way to search for an individuals life insurance policy if we don't know who the carrier is? We don't know where to start. The other property and bank accounts have already gone through probate and been dispursed.

Re: Does Life Insurance Exist?

order bank records from banks and purchase records from credit cards and look for premium payments to insurance companies. start writing to major insurance companies inquiring if she had a policy.

this is why important records should be kept in a fire proof safe or a bank safe deposit box.

I don't know if that is still possible, but I would start by calling someone who sells life insurance to see if they can help.
