Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California

My mom died 2 years ago and my sister promised that i would get my share of our inheritance soon after the funeral. She had taken power of attorney over my Moms 5-600,000 estate a few years earlier. After the funeral she would no longer return my calls nor my letters. I've been to her house several times also but she wont answer the door . She knows i DON'T HAVE THE MONEY FOR A LAWYER. Can I get legal help with a contingency deal? Thank you--there's actually a lot more to the whole story.

It would require some investigation to determine if your Mother had an Estate. If your mother created a Trust, then you should have received notice after your Mom died even if you were disinherited. But if assets were in joint tenancy with your sister, then they were transferred to your sister by operation of law after your Mother died. Attorneys do take cases like this on contingency. You should contact your local bar association in the County where you live or where your mother was living and see if you can get a referral to an attorney who handles Probate related cases. But you should act promptly. It's already been 2 years and if you wait too long then your claims will be barred.
