What proof do I need to show that I am my deceased nephew's closest living relative?

You are gong to need to show that you have a blood relation and then you will probably need to make a publication in one or two local papers (depending on how large the famiy is/was and where they are/were located). This gives other rlatives making claims a chance to make such a claim.

If the gross estate is over $100,000 then you will need to do this through the Probate court. If not, then there is a form process that needs to be followed.
