When i was 11 i went through a lawsuit due to a dog bite i received in which i was rewarded a large amount of money to be put in a trust till i turned 18. well now i am 26 and have no way of locating the money which is in california and i am now in texas, and have no way to contact my stepfather who has the information. Is there anyway to go thru some kinda of procedure to trace the money thru the courts so i can claim it? please respond

Re: trusts

If you remember where you lived (what county) wheb you were 11, you could write to the clerk of the court for that county. You could also search the California Unclaimed Property website.

Re: trusts

You've got some detective work to do. There are several possibilities for where the money went. One way to do it would be a search of the court records to find out what the Court's orders were, who was your guardian, where money was deposited, etc.

It is also possible that this money may have been on state's unclaimed property publications.

Let me know if you want to discuss this.

Re: trusts

You could also hire a private investigator to help you find the money. Once he does, you may need a lawyer to assist you in obtaining it.
