Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California

How often should I update my will? I'm healthy in my 50s, and not going through any major life changes. I'm just worry that I don't know what I don't know. Thoughts?

Unless you want to change your beneficiaries or your Executor, you probably don't need to update your Will. If you have children and/or own real property or have assets worth more than $150,000 (not including assets with valid beneficiary designations or held in joint tenancy) you might want to upgrade to a living trust, though.

Update your will when your life changes. Update your will when you divorce, or get married. Update your will when your property changes.

The problem I have had with old wills is that most of them are not self proving, and the attesting witnesses are dead also. New wills are almost always self proving and the witnesses still live next door!
