Legal Question in Workers Comp in California

I was injury at work in 10/10 and in 04/11 I was told I needed surgery on left shoulder my company said I had to do FMLA even if I was injury at work do I have to use it I'm now in my 6 weeks after my surgery and doing my therapy. Can my company fire me even if it was job related?
