Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Colorado

Collection of debt of which I was unaware

Approximately 3 years ago, I had an insurance claim go erroneously unpaid by the insurance company. The health agency proceeded to bill me for the $26, but I had moved out of state and never received a bill. Apparently, this debt went to collection, and again, I never received a bill or collection notice. Just now the collection agency has reported the debt to my credit report and ruined my credit. I have taken steps to pay this huge bill, but neither the collection agency nor the creditor will remove the collection history from my credit report. Doesn't the creditor and/or collection agency have some obligation to find me? I have offered to pay all collection agency fees if the creditor will remove this account from my credit report, but they have refused. My good credit is more important to me than the money it would cost me, so I would do anything, including pay fees, hire an attorney, whatever, if I could get this fixed. It seems hugely unfair that a bill I never received has ruined my credit (I have been denied credit three times, which prompted me to check my credit report, which is the only way I found out about this problem).

Thank you.

Re: Collection of debt of which I was unaware

You have the right to insert your version of the

facts regarding the adverse report(limited to a certain number of words)with each of the major credit reporting agencies,

Beyond this measure, there is none to avail yourself of, and you may as well forget about calling on those who bogusly claimm that they have the capability (for a sum certain) to repair your credit.
