Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Connecticut

Possible Civil Rights Violation at Work

I work at Pfizer Inc. contracted by a company called Securitas. I work in the Emergency Dispatch / Security Operations Center. Recently our boss has had a power trip, and found the need to listen in on our personnal phone conversations, and then decided out of the blue to put security camera on us, in our office. Is this a violation in any way of our civil, or personal rights? At this point I would quit if I could afford to do so, because this is just getting overboard. Please respond, Thanks

Re: Possible Civil Rights Violation at Work

Your boss' conduct is governed by corporate policies.

First, find out what the policies are, then decide if you can work for a company that spies on you....as most companies, with highly technical products, do. Whether they tell you about it or not.

The fact is, you have no substantial privacy rights at work. The company owns the telephone, computer and the hallways.

If your boss' spying is causing work-related difficulties, then use the standard methods of bringing this to not only his attention, but to the attention of those who set the policy that allowed this in the first place. Power tripping wears thin after a while, so you may just have to use diplomacy to let him know that he's being too heavy-handed given the policies, which is destroying morale.
