Legal Question in Criminal Law in Connecticut

My son (20) was arrested on possession of pot (residue in a container), possession of paraphanalia, and a felony charge for carrying a bat in his car. I never knew that you couldn't have a bat which was (12inches) was a felony? If he had no prior record what are the chances that it will stay on his record or be reduced? Can he do jail time if it stays a felony? Also his courtdate is 1/19/2010 will i need a lawyer or should i wait to see what the prosecutor says?

You should seriously consider hiring a lawyer. You want to make sure that your son does not start his adult life with a record. The fact that your son has a clean record will certainly help him. Any of the charges potentially carry jail time but there is a much greater likelihood of jail time for a felony than for misdemeanors.
