Legal Question in Family Law in Connecticut

My Connecticut divorce decree states either party can not move out of state without the courts approval. My ex said he's moving & doesn't plan on following the visitation. I know I can file he's in contempt but will the court actually do something about it

Although I don't have enough information about the particulars of your case, a court will take his move very seriously, especially since he did not seek court approval. You should file the motion for contempt and argue your case. The court is required to look at certain criteria before allowing someone to move.

Is he planning on taking the child with him? If that's the case, the court in CT will have jurisdiction to make decisions regarding the child for 6 months. If you don't file a motion within that 6 months, then the court where he takes the child will obtain jurisdiction, so be sure to file within 6 months. If he's not taking the child, and what you are worried about is that he won't be keeping up his visitation, then there's not much you, or the court, can do. They can't make him be a good parent. You can chase him to any state to collect child support, but you can't make him visit.
