What legal obligation, if any, do I have to provide for my son's financial welfare (housing, board, college tuition, etc.,) now that is 18 years of age?

If he has not yet graduated from high school, you may have a child support obligation until he graduates or turns 19, whichever comes first. And if there's a divorce, the court could make you contribute to his college education until age 23. But assuming there's no court order in effect, you can turn off the spigot at 18.
