Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Connecticut

starting a petition

I'm not sure I chose the correct catagory or not. Myself and a few other parents in my area want to start a petition to get bus monitors on our school bus as we have had many issues. last week the driver had to pull over and call 911 when a child cracked his head open on the bus and the children were 45 minutes late for school. How would we go about doing this? is there a form we would need to get from someplace or do we create one ourselves? Who do we present it to when we have all our signatures? Should we stick with a petition to get a monitor on just our bus or on all the buses in our town?

Re: starting a petition

a "petition" may help but it won't assure a response. Unfortunately, school board issues are the most difficult to resolve unless you just "sue them." My experience has been numerous meetings, emails, snail mails and faxes that amount to nothing. Especially with bus drivers. You need to call the superintendit and get the "bus regulations." You probably will discover that there are none. You probably won't be successful in getting a response. You need to ask a lot of questions and get as much information as you can as to the rules and regs. There probably aren't any. You will discover that there aren't any decent regulations, policies etc re: bus drivers. I encourage you to go to the Superior court and file if there are no administrative remedies that you must exhaust first. My last experience in a " SCHOOL BUS CASE" was that the bus company nor the school system would take responsibility. I hope that a child doesn't get seriously hurt before someone does something to set up regs to control this most OUT OF CONTROL situation.

Good Luck and please let us know what happened.
